South Coombe Cottages

South Coombe is perfectly situated in one of the most beautiful parts of Devon. It has both country cottages � suitable for parties of between two and six - and bed & breakfast accommodation of the highest standard. Have a share in the peace, tranquillity and harmony that it instils in everyone who visits.

The farmhouse itself  which houses the bed & breakfast accommodation - is over four hundred years old and is a chocolate box Devon thatched cottage of immense character and beauty. The four country cottages  created from barns that are around three hundred years old ooze charm and yet have all the facilities of modern living. All have stunning countryside views.

The swimming pool complex which is considerably younger is ideally placed for guests to enjoy. It was completed in 2006 and houses a 10m x 5m indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a games room and a fully equipped gym. Situated on the site of an Old Dutch barn, the complex also has an outdoor patio where guests can relax in the open air.

Once a working farm and now a haven for wildlife, South Coombe is surrounded by fifteen acres of land where guests may wander at their leisure. Grassy spots along the stream that runs through part of the farm, and the lawns adjacent to the duck ponds make lovely settings for impromptu picnics. Sharing the open space you will find our free-range hens and ducks.

Within the lovely old cider orchard there is a children�s activity play area with slides, swings and climbing frames making this just the right place for children to have fun. We have strategically placed a picnic table adjacent to the play area so that parents can sit and drink a glass of wine whilst supervising their children!

Guests with one pet are also welcome to holiday at South Coombe. We have ample secure space for dogs to run and play without worrying the other animals. We do ask that dogs are not left unattended in the cottages or allowed upstairs.

Witheridge village is 1 mile away and has a general store, post office and newsagents where you can buy most everyday items. The village has two pubs serving good food and both have been well visited by our previous guests.

Situated between North and South Devon, we are within easy reach of Exmoor, Dartmoor and the coastal resorts. So, although lots of our guests choose to spend their days with us, if you do want to see more of Devon, we are perfectly placed for you to do just that.


The Farmhouse

We can offer Bed & Breakfast in our 400 year-old listed farmhouse surrounded by 15 picturesque and tranquil acres of Devon countryside.

Bed & Breakfast visitors to South Coombe Farm benefit from their own private entrance to the beautiful thatched farmhouse. The guest accommodation consists of a large double room with adjoining single room, together with an en-suite shower room. Both rooms are furnished to a high standard in pine and both have beamed ceilings. Additional facilities include colour TV with video, radio alarm, tea and coffee-making facilities, mini fridge and seating area. Guests also have their own private garden area complete with seating, the perfect place to enjoy a Devon cream tea.


Saffis Cottage

Converted from the old stables this cottage has been thoughtfully renovated, retaining most of the original beams. Saffis cottage is a three-bed roomed cottage with modern facilities. This cottage has the benefit of its own private patio and garden with spectacular views over the open countryside. Refurbished in 2005 it has a new kitchen and an en-suite shower room downstairs. Background heating is by night storage heaters.

Spacious open-plan living/dining-room with wood-burning stove, wooden floor and French door to garden. Modern kitchen area with a built-in fridge/freezer. Dining area leading to a large enclosed garden with patio.

Double bedroom twin or double (6ft zip & link beds) with large en-suite shower room/W.C.

First floor:

A delightful spacious double bedroom with exposed A-frame beams. A spacious single bedroom also with exposed beams. Bathroom/W.C. with over-bath shower.


Tilly's Cottage sleeps 6 plus cot

A converted barn, which has retained many of the original beams. Tilly�s Cottage is very spacious, benefiting from three double bedrooms and two bathrooms. The patio area at the rear looks towards the duck ponds and rolling countryside beyond. Look out for the hens and ducks as they patrol the grounds.

Jonquil Cottage sleeps 3

This charming and characterful cottage, with its original walls and oak beams, has been converted from the old hayloft. It has been further renovated in 2007 to provide a new bathroom, complete with over bath shower, a fully fitted modern kitchen area and full central heating. Jonquil Cottage is a perfect tranquil retreat for a romantic break at any time of year.

Ground floor:

Open-plan living/dining-room. Well-equipped modern fitted kitchen, including dishwasher.

First floor:

Double bedroom with beamed sloping ceiling. Single bedroom (accessed via double bedroom), ideal for child or alternative sleeping. Bathroom/W.C.


Drake's Cottage sleeps 4 plus cot

This spacious and airy cottage has large open-plan sitting, dining and kitchen areas with patio doors leading to the garden. This cottage has wonderful views of the old cider orchard, the duck ponds and the beautiful open countryside beyond. Drakes Cottage has had a new modern bathroom fitted in spring 2006. This luxury bathroom has a large shower and white bathroom suite. The cottage is equally suitable for families who want extra space or couples who are looking for peace and relaxation.
