Upcott House (Sleeps 12) + 2 cots and 2 z-beds
Upcott has all space and feel of a historical coastal property plus all the modern fittings and furnishings you would expect in a luxury, self-catering holiday house. It is the perfect venue for get-togethers of family and friends, wedding anniversaries or special birthday celebrations. Upcott is also regularly booked by the film, magazine and TV industries for location shoots and features, and is ideal for corporate meetings.
Upcott is an Arts and Crafts gem - a big rambling house with its own little turret, high above the quiet coastal road between Beer and Lyme Regis. Two years ago Liz and Malcolm from London decided to restore the house to its 19th-century splendour. Carpets were ripped up to reveal original floorboards, now revived, harsh strip lighting made way for discreet spot lights and the odd glistening chandelier, rough walls were made smooth and tinted in subtle colours. The eco-restoration is now complete: stained-glass windows and lovely period detail rub shoulders with new leather sofas, funky fabrics and contemporary furniture. The bright, spacious living room has a wood-burning stove; the kitchen has sleek units armed with every conceivable utensil. Upstairs, bedrooms have chunky wooden beds with excellent mattresses; one has a balcony, another the turret, all have the same blissful views. More gorgeous things to gawp at in the super bathrooms, including a chromotherapy Airbath in one for the truly indulgent: hot water is generated from solar panels hidden in the roof slates. Down below, the pretty terrace tumbles down stone steps and sloping lawns to the garden's edge - enjoy the views, and the sparkling sweep of blue sea beyond.
